I try to simplify things to understand them, then expand on that simplification. So, let's look at two instances. Two conservative Popes who hide child rape and republicans who vote for people they know are morally corrupt. What do these two things have in common? The popes and the republicans are conservative.

Perhaps conservatism forces people to defend their institution above all else and the problem isn't the people but their party. We see a complete collapse of morality in the Catholic Church and in the republican party.

If you're a conservative I can see why a person is happy with their church or their party but if you're moral you wonder what the hell is wrong with these people. Rape and lying are wrong.

They have their endless excuses but no can defend the republican party or the Catholic Church. Conservatives destroyed both. Btw, I'm not picking on Catholics. I don't believe in the god myth. I could have just as easily included Evangelicals or any other church run by men.
