In a word, no. I have, however noticed a curious correlation between the Asian economic crisis and the introduction of new ergonomic features on SI. I suspect that the fall off of posts on this tread may be due to the new Private messaging feature. There is, in all probability, a roaring debate going on behind our backs. All done with private messages. Further more, I suspect that these private posts are some of the funniest post even posted on SI. Unfortunately, no one can known for sure. As evidence, look at the activity in the secret clubhouse. When was the last time a major band played for us?
This private message thing has serious implications. As an example, I offer the Year 2000: Impact on the Stock Market & Society thread. On this particular thread, most people post to themselves. Ever notice that? What happens if they decide to post to themselves using private messages?
Well, we will all be poorer for this. The true impact of Year 2000 on the stock market and society will be tucked away in these private messages.
On a more positive note, this private message thing, has some benefits. I have posted well over 50 messages on the Year 2000: Impact on the Stock Market and Society thread this past week. Each one was posted to myself as a private message and I mentioned company names in every single post.
