There is some merit to what you say. However, the dust on the DEC merger will not settle for at least one to two years.

It wll take 3 to 4 months until the merger closes. Then it will take at least six months for Compaq to complete most of the major changes that they will make (eg. layoffs, restructuring, selling divisions, closing factories etc.) Then you won't know the true bottom line results for several quarters later or longer.

After all that, then you will have a different reason for not buying.
