It is amazing how ignorant of the Bible most Christians actually are. Ask them any particular detail - they don't know - some will argue that well-know contradictions are not there. The attraction for evangelicals is that you don't have to do anything (including study the Bible - just another of your sins) as long as you show up and testify to your sins and say you seek Jesus. There is no catechism or reciting of the Torah. You basically just show up and say how much you love Jesus and no one questions it. Not everyone is ignorant - but I'd say that the people attracted to vapid things are hardly ever interested in book learning.
