Interesting, I never heard it called that before. I'll do some reading.

I've tried to teach the technique to my wife who has trouble sleeping with no success. I've been frustrated with myself trying to explain it to her better.

In my late teens, I attended transcendental meditation classes at a center in D.C. on a regular basis. I was fascinated by the practice for quite some time. Once I found the sound/tone or awareness of what happens to my conscious mind just prior to going unconscious, I can focus on that sound and keeping hold of it for as long as possible. That tone puts me in a meditated state. Once in a meditated state, it's easy to tell your brain to go to sleep. A simple internal suggestion to yourself, while holding the sound is all it takes for me.
