Many of your posts are just throw-aways, SM, but you do raise some germane issues. Is it a risk to buy cpq now that it has announced a merger with DEC. It is because the outcome is not guaranteed. However, the synergies are obvious and have been stated in numerous posts. I'm primarily interested in the DEC service capabiities which cpq has been tapping since '95 and so already has a clear and certain knowlege of. Further, I think cpq , management has shown itself to be competent and forward-looking in the past and I trust it. Is it a risk? yes. But what if you don't buy now. The stock price could rocket as the merger begins to fall into place. I'd rather take that risk now as a long term investor than wait until the share price is out of sight. And anyone who invests more than he or she can afford to lose is a fool or just unfortunate in any case. I'd rather buy now on the very good chance of appreciation in the future.
