Bernie, the "not even a Democrat" just got the poor $600 and may have gotten them $2,000 which they desperately need
The poor have gotten $600, and may get $2,000, they would not have gotten if not for Bernie teaming up with Republican senator Josh Hawley, AOC and the progressives and raised hell about the fact there was no direct payment to the poor in this recent stimulus bill and said they will not support it without the direct payment.
And the "not even a Democrat" may have won two seats for the Democrats in Georgia by forcing the Republicans to discuss and defend not voting for the $2,000, and keeping that in the spot light with filibusters until at least new Years.
Mcconnell himself said about not having a stimulus: "we are getting hammered in Georgia".
Republicans voting against the $2,000 will have to defend that vote in 2022.
Had Bernie not challenged that bill and worked out a plan, there would be no money at all for the poor, and not forced the Republicans to take a vote to defeat it, and be counted, and kept it in the publics eye at least until New Years with his filibuster.
Senator Markey has joined Bernie in his filibuster and it has forced both Loeffler and Perdue and other Republicans to say they would vote for it and may well end up giving the House to the Democrats.
This is one of the few times the dems have pushed the Republicans into a very defensive position and divided them, and they will come out of scarred.
This is what fighting the good fight looks like.

"So there are three primary reasons why the progressives, who consist of the majority of academics and scientists and about half the Democrats, backed Bernie so strongly"
Bernie and Warren combined got 34% of the vote in the primary. Biden was the one who got the votes of half of the Democrats; he almost doubled Bernie's total. There's also a reason why we lost all those seats in the House... socialists scare people in the middle as much as Trump does.
