Yeah, I saw those pictures at the time. I would however like to have seen a random sample audit of the people in line to see exactly why they were there. Remember the TP shortages in stores early on? Now why did people horde TP? The same mentality that lead to TP shortages might cause miles of cars waiting for free food, even if they didn't really need it. Hard to say sans actually checking, and we don't do much checking in modern America...
