12/31/2020 Final Contest update
(Contest and Index YTDs are calculated from 1/3/2020 close.)
It’s official! JBOG’s portfolio is the winner of the 2020 Biotech Charity Contest with an awe-inspiring 260.85% gain for the year.
As Contest winner, rather than pick a charity JBOG left the choice up to all of you. So donate your pledge amount to your own favorite charity.
For those who would like to contribute to my charity choice (no obligation), this year it’s Phages for Global Health. Here’s the link: phagesforglobalhealth.org
Second place FILO’s portfolio, up 190.89% for the year and third place MASTER’s portfolio, up 120.30% for the year, also performed formidably, gaining far more than the biotech indexes.

Technetium has volunteered to be the scorekeeper for the 2021 Contest. Here’s the 2021 Contest link: Subject 60185.
(Unlike the Trump administration’s obstruction in the transition to the Biden administration, I’ll be cooperating in the transition to Technetium’s takeover as the 2021 Contest scorekeeper.;-))
The long holiday weekend would be a good time to begin working on your 2021 Contest portfolio. Portfolio submission deadline is Sunday, January 3, 2021, Midnight, PST!

Biotechs had a hard time in 2020's final week but still closed out the year with impressive gains. For 2020, the Contest median was up 31.19%, the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 28.10%, the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was up 50.84%, while the Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) was up 42.87%.
At the Contest close, 35 of the 42 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 24 beating the NBI and 12 beating the sky-high SPSIBI.
The 197 Contest stock picks had an average gain of 39.12% for the year with the median up 3.58% for the year.
Below is the Top Ten list for 2020. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the year ranked by % Gained and % Lost. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: None.
I will post more year-end data as soon as I can get to it.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits & mergers, greatly appreciated.)
All the best for a healthy, prosperous and joyful 2021.
Don’t forget to wear your mask and social distance.
Peace & good health,
Bulba
