Around here the kids play youth football in the Police Athletic League (PAL). Back when my oldest son played, we had so many kids that we had three teams playing tackle at the youngest level (now we are lucky to scrape together one, and we don't play tackle until sixth grade). From third until eighth grade, we never ever beat New Canaan's PAL teams (they always had two) because their coach was, well, pretty obsessed with winning. Rumor was that he even taped our practices. Speaking of Notre Dame, you may have heard of him: this Heisman candidate. His son also played at Notre Dame.

One more true story about football obsessed New Canaan: When their HS team wanted to learn a new offense, the owner of Jet Blue, who lives there, flew the entire team down to Florida to get trained. Of course, I'm happy to say that both my son's senior team and the team that followed were both undefeated in winning our league championships. However, NC is one school class size smaller than we are and won some ridiculous number of state class championships in a row. The good thing about CT being such a small state is that you get to know all the star players and love to see them do well at the next level(s).
