I have a great deal of respect for hpeace in terms of particular option strategies and reference points. We differ in a couple respects.

I establish a particular goal for each transaction. If I can meet that goal, I take my money and run. CPQ, due to the merger, is probably dead money for the next 90 to 180 days, therefore no insurance was purchsed on the upside. However, if it skyrockets, I'll turn around and sell near strike puts.

When this merger is complete, I buy far out protective calls to insure monthly call writing. (Not as easy as it looks)
