[Off topic] - hey it's the weekend, I don't feel too bad about going off topic.
I for one am thankful for the Durro's of the world. Folks like him are what makes it possible for you to continue to enjoy free speech, ...
Maybe I'm confused, but I saw a post from a non-US citizen(is that right?) knocking the US(Clinton) as being solely responsible for possibly escalating the situation over in IRAQ. Moreover, the post contends it is only a ruse to take the spotlight away from the current situation.
I can definitely see why some people might take exception to a post like that, I do, but not strongly enough to warrant a post. Be that as it may, I'm not sure I understand your contention that attitudes like that "make it possible" for us to enjoy free speech. Unfortunately, the freedom of speech, democracy, and such are usually only obtained/maintained through conflict. I think the saying is the price of freedom is constant vigilance? I believe there is a difference between pacifism/passive resistance and simply whining about why another country should or shouldn't be "posturing". As far as the situation at hand, either the assumption is Iraq won't do anything so why are we bothering(recent history says that's a silly assumption) or leave Iraq alone and let them do whatever they want. That's the attitude the world(including the US) has had many times with what we now know to be madmen(ala 1938-1942). Like it or not, we are the police force of the world(usually with UN concurrence). My two cents. |
