If you're planning on celebrating the Millennium in some exotic locale - you better think again!!
=================================================================
YEAR 2000 AIR TRANSPORT SUMMIT - Feb 10-11 Houston, TX
================================================================= Air transport will be seriously disrupted because of the Year 2000 Millennium Bug. Already airline IT managers are warning that they will not be able to fix it in time and predictions are being made that air traffic control will collapse.

It will lead to:
- Operational Failures
- Revenue Losses
- Damaged Reputations
- Dissatisfied Customers
- Safety Risks
- Legal Claims

The various parts of the air transport industry - airlines, airports, air traffic control, aircraft maufacturers, CRS's, avionics and IT suppliers - need to work together to safeguard each other's interests.

It is already impossible to fix everything in time. It is necessary to focus now on damage limitation.

To facilitate this urgent requirement, Aviation Informatics, the specialist publication for air transport and travel information technology systems, is staging a two day industry summit on Year 2000 industry concerns.

The magazine is inviting air transport and travel industry leaders and experts to join together to provide practical advice and comprehensive guidance on how to deal with problems that will arise.

Air Year 2000 '98, is being held as part of ATTIS '98 Americas, which is being staged at the Wyndham Greenspoint Hotel, Houston, Texas, USA, on February 10-11, 1998. It is being designed to be THE forum for air transport Year 2000 issues, decisions and action.

During the meeting speakers will examine:
- The scale of the problem and the implications.
- How to analyse it, fix it and test it.
- How to make senior business managers and politicians aware.
- How to obtain focus and resource.
- How to monitor the activities of your air transport partners.
- How to limit the damage.

The opening session will focus on the reality of how airlines and their operations will be affected by the Year 2000 Millennium Bug.

Airline representatives will discuss how they are attempting to prevent the costly failures and computer errors that could shut down whole operational areas.

Airline representatives will provide personal case studies that detail the challenges that are to be faced individually and as an industry. Speakers will debate and highlight the need to emphasise an industry-wide responsibility and global guidelines and standards.

Speakers have been invited from Delta Air Lines, KLM and British Airways.

"It is not just a case of making my airline Year 2000 compliant. If the airports and the air traffic control centers where we operate are not, then there will also be major disruption."
Head of IT, major European airline.
