Tenchu's Thoughts: SEDITION

I think it's clear to me that what happened in the Capitol today was nothing short of sedition.

Stolen Election? Where have I heard that one before?

First of all, let's get over that election theft thingy. If you want to believe that the election was stolen from Trump, you wouldn't be alone. 7 out of 10 Republicans think so too, just like 9 out of 10 Democrats thought the 2016 election was stolen from Hillary.

But the way to protest that isn't to storm the Capitol with guns and pipe bombs. Instead, the way to protest that is to do it peacefully and non-violently.

Also, the way to contest the election is through the courts, which Trump did, and almost every challenge was rejected because of lack of evidence.

Trump's Hand

Did Trump encourage the protesters? It's clear to me that he did. Every action he took after the election, every tweet he made, every phone call he made including the infamous one to the Georgia official, clearly showed that Trump was obsessed with overturning the election.

And it was clear that he wanted the raid on the Capitol to happen. Why? Because he thought all of the riots that were sparked by BLM and Antifa over the last year gave him a pass.

Does he have any plausible deniability? Can he claim that he didn't know that the protest yesterday would turn into the shitshow that it did? I don't think so. Not anymore. It's clear that he endorsed it, approved of it, and took absolutely no action to stop it when things got out of hand. Even Pence and other leaders in Washington had to step in and stop the madness.

But but whatabout BLM? But but whatabout Antifa?

Speaking of BLM and Antifa, I am one of their biggest critics, and I agree that they got away with far too much over the past year.

But that doesn't excuse what happened at the Capitol.

And although I harp on the monetary losses and the human cost of BLM and Antifa's antics, the symbolism of Trump supporters carrying Confederate flags and storming the Capitol is essentially unmatched and unprecedented.

In any case, I think the buck should stop here. Try every single person who was in the Capitol for sedition. If that clogs up the federal court system and causes prisons to overflow, so be it. I think the government can figure out how to deal with that.

Then let that also send a message to BLM and Antifa. The time which you get a pass on your mayhem is at an end. Next time you take over a government building, or protest violently and cause injuries to officers, ZERO TOLERANCE.

I don't care if your protests are "93% peaceful." A few bad apples always spoils the bunch.

Impeachment?

Trump will be gone in two weeks, but is that soon enough? Should we just let him serve out the remainder of his term alone and without any social media presence, now that Facebook and Twitter has blocked his accounts?

I don't think so.

Congress should immediately convene and draw up articles of impeachment. Expedite the process. Have the House voting by next week and the Senate voting soon after. Even if Trump is impeached and removed from office on January 19th, it would be worth making the statement.

By the way, I remember the last time Trump was impeached. I agreed with the impeachment, but not the removal. I thought what Trump did with that call to Ukraine deserved to be censured, but it didn't warrant his removal from office.

But this time, I believe he should be removed from office. And like I said, if it happens on January 19th, so be it.

25th amendment?

As for the 25th amendment, I feel like it should only be used if the president truly is mentally incapacitated. A strong argument could be made for that, but ultimately I think Trump was well-aware of what he did, and he still has the mental capability to make choices. He should be held responsible for those choices he made, and I feel like the 25th amendment, in a sense, absolves him of any responsibility.

It's the equivalent of him pleading insanity. And I don't think he should be let off the hook that easily.

But hey, if Congress decides to go down that path instead of impeachment, I'm not going to object.

The future of the GOP

I think it's clear that the unity the GOP had during Trump's first impeachment is gone.

It's also clear to me that Trump's antics snatched defeat from the jaws of victory when it came to Georgia's run-off election. Now Congress is in complete control of the Democrats, and they're going to be acting as if they have a mandate (womandate?) to pass socialism.

In any case, the GOP's days are numbered. The sooner they realize this, the sooner they get rid of Trump, the better. Otherwise they'll circle the drain, and America will suffer one-party rule for the next 30 years.

Issues, not personality

We have finally seen the ultimate consequences of a political party voting for a personality over the issues.

We have finally seen the ultimate consequences of a political party forgetting that character truly counts.

We have finally seen the ultimate consequences of a political party who's leader is completely wrapped up in social media and the alternate reality it creates.

If the pandemic didn't break this guy out of that bubble, if a literal act of treason didn't do it, nothing will.

It's time for at least one political party to get back to the issues. So far, that's looking like the Democrats, despite them being on what I consider to be the "wrong side" of the issues that matter to me.

Because look what happened with the political party that was supposed to be on "my side."

No thank you. Let's get back to the issues. Let's once again value objective truth over alternate realities and fake narratives.

Will that happen under Biden? I don't know, but if it doesn't, don't say we didn't warn you when the shit once again hits the fan.
