Scott, You realize, I'm sure, that the cost of using Motorola's Iridium satellite phone system - which ain't up yet - will be $6 a minute. That's a little steep for me. Using cell phone systems won't necessarily get to where I want to go and they're pretty expensive too. At least for now. What's really needed to support wireless internet links to anywhere is some way to be able to connect just long enough to send your data packets, then disconnect. Your field computer could listen for packets being sent to it at all times. What you don't want is to pay for a hookup while you're just stareing at the screen, or you laid it done to do something else. It would be best if there was no dialup at all.
