You might be surprised....;-}
Kenneth,
You might be surprised about whether someone ever actually takes a hike up on your favourite trail. I have hiked and or paddled in many areas of several provinces and states and I know that as an avid hiker, I always try to make time to find at least one good trail when I am "passing through" an area. Sometimes I stumble across a really great trail by accident, but many times, I find out about it from people in the area, people who run B&B's (which I always stay in when travelling), or from hiking guides for a region which I borrow from the library a few weeks before I leave on a trip. Of all of these methods, being told about a trail by area hikers is probably the most reliable and useful. I'll be posting a few of my favourite "trails" on this thread, so keep watching....
And BTW, yes, talking about hiking and paddling really DOES help to make the last few months of winter a little more bearable. So does looking at maps, planning trips, doing canoe repairs... I'm a gardener as well, so I spend this time looking through seed catalogues, ordering seeds, and getting my tomato and other plants started. Really helps to put those winter blues on the run... (-:
