The problem is, there is no chance for peace. They have never been peaceful, why would they start now that their first attempt at violent overthrow has failed? Especially when they are openly planning future violence. This coming week may not see much, but they are already planning events for the 17th and later. In their eyes, the 6th was a victory, just not as much as they wanted. Many seem to feel the problem was there wasn't enough violence. So the plan is to go heavily armed and primed for combat. Given the response of the Capitol Police, who can blame them?

The ship of peaceful accommodation sailed with the election of Trump. It was headed for violence before then, but there was a chance for peace. That chance is gone unless you want to just go ahead and surrender. That arguably wouldn't be peaceful either.

At some point we need to start the treatment to bring the cancer to heel. We have let it ravage the country for far too long. I don't think it can be eradicated, but it can be controlled. Maybe. If it isn't too late. Given the response so far, it very well may be too late.
