In Canada one would move to the VACAY home .. for awhile and rent the other.. Sell the Cali place while being resident. and we (up here) pay no taxes on that sale.. Then move to the now rented Nevada home :) \

we have no Cap gains on owner occupied .. and that trick is used often here..
