I should also add that in order to have a meaningful and constructive dialogue, all parties have to start from a point of mutual respect.

That's a hard place to get to from some of the rhetoric I've been hearing and reading. I hope we can get there, but I'm not real optimistic as long as we have algorithms manipulating our brains to hate our fellow humans.

Technology is evolving far faster than the human brain's ability to adapt and evolve. We're really starting to inhabit some of our seemingly far-fetched science fiction movies.

Mutual respect, common goals, that's the stuff that brings us together. I think many of the people who are on opposite sides share many of the same goals, like hope for a better future, prosperity for their family and community, and safety and security to enjoy their freedoms as an American.
