Highlights of the News
Don Surber

Donald John Trump is still our president.

ITEM 1: Zero Hedge reported, "The Great Purge: Twitter Has Suspended More Than 70,000 Accounts Since Friday."

What an ingenious business model they have. Ban the people who provide the free content that you use to peddle ads.

They said communists don't understand capitalism. Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter, proved them wrong. By ridding himself of the 75 million who voted to re-elect President Trump, Dorsey kept the 80 million who voted for Biden.

Of course, 20 million of those Biden voters are dead or imaginary.

United Press International reported, "Twitter removes 70,000 QAnon-linked accounts."

Ah, QAnon, the bogey man of the 21st century.

Jim Cramer of CNBC said, "Twitter’s got to come up with a new thesis very, very quickly because I think they always, they never talked about the power of Trump in bringing in people."

Many people need to come up with something new, including CNN and MSNBC because nobody watched Soviet TV.

And under Biden, that is what we will have.

ITEM 2: The Foundation for Economic Education reported, "Facebook Suspends Ron Paul Following Column Criticizing Big Tech Censorship."

He would thank them for proving his point, if he had any way of reaching his followers on Facebook.

Also, Breitbart reported, "Facebook has announced that it will remove all content that mentions Stop the Steal, a phrase in reference to the 2020 U.S. presidential election that is popular among supporters of President Donald Trump."

After Facebook tagged one of my posts with an inane warning, I stopped using it to promote my blog.

ITEM 3: Rusty Weiss reported, "Michael Sherwin, a federal prosecutor, questioned about President Trump’s role in the Capitol riots, refused to rule out criminal charges against the POTUS. He’s the acting U.S. Attorney for D.C. and has repeatedly assured reporters in a press call that he would investigate and charge 'all actors' involved in Wednesday’s riot.

"In September, though, at the height of the Black Lives Matter riots across America that saw vandalism and arson at an exponentially greater degree, Sherwin dropped charges for all but one individual in his district."

Next time, President Trump should just leave the vacancies vacant and refuse to fill them with acting prosecutors and the like. In Term II, he should fire everyone on the first day and start all over again.

ITEM 4: Red State reported, "Fox News Making Changes to Their Daytime Lineup -- Ratings Decline Starting to Be Felt?"

There is less here than meets the eye. Cavuto stays. Baier stays. The only major change is MacCallum gets demoted from the 7 PM slot to the 3 PM slot. She went up against Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, and of course lost.

ITEM 5: Beth Baumann reported, "House Intelligence Committee Ranking Member Devin Nunes (R-CA) on Sunday called for a Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations investigation into Big Tech stifling the new social media platform Parler."

RICO was written to get the Mafia.

Well, Jeff Bezos and the rest have acted like the Mafia. Why not take them to court and seize their assets?

The only reason we have a federal government is to protect our rights.

ITEM 6: Breitbart reported, "Scarborough on Capitol Riot: Can Draw Analogies with Rise of Hitler."

I agree. Hitler used the Reichstag Fire the same way Obama and his minions are using Trespassing at the Capitol to install a police state.

Of course, Scarborough meant President Trump is Hitler.

ITEM 7: Will Chamberlain wrote, "Rein in the abusive Big Tech republic."

He said, "the First Amendment protects against government censorship. But in 2020, most political debate happens on large social-media platforms. Facebook and Twitter are the modern public square. Thus, if our society’s commitment to free speech is to have any meaning, our government must constrain large social-media companies from censoring Americans’ lawful speech.

"Poland, appropriately enough, is leading the way. Their Justice Minister, Zbigniew Ziobro, announced last month that the Polish government would enact a law constraining Big Tech from censoring their citizens. Polish users who are victims of censorship can go to a new Polish court, get an injunction forcing the company to restore their account and their content, on penalty of a fine of as much as 1.8 million euros.

"We should do the same."

It is too late for that.

This should have been done when Republicans had power.

Big Tech is in bed with the communists who will official assume control of the nation on January 20.

ITEM 8: Just the News reported, "Social media company Parler announced Monday that it is suing Amazon, arguing the the company being suspended from Amazon's hosting service violates antitrust laws and breaches the contract established between the two companies.

"Parler, short-form internet posting social media forum that has become particularly popular among conservatives and Trump supporters, is asking the federal judge in Seattle to order the platform be reinstated.

"The complaint accuses Amazon Web Services of applying a political double standard to Parler that stands in stark contrast to its treatment of the more mainstream social media site Twitter."

Jeff Bezos seeks not only to control coverage of the federal government through his Washington Post, but to control the national conversation through his AWS.

Under Obama, we had crony capitalism.

Now we will have corporate communism.

Beware, comrade.

ITEM 9: The Associated Press alleged, "President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence appear to have come to a détente after nearly a week of silence, anger and finger-pointing.

"The two met Monday evening in the Oval Office and had a good conversation, according to a senior administration official. It was their first time speaking since last Wednesday, when Trump incited his supporters to storm the Capitol building as Pence was presiding over certification of November’s election results. Pence and his family were forced into hiding."

The last three words tell you this is fiction not fact.

Forced into hiding?

They have Secret Service protection.

ITEM 10: United Press International reported, "Kim Yo Jong was excluded from a North Korean list for the ruling Workers' Party Politburo on Monday, prompting speculation in the South the her brother, Kim Jong Un, could be preparing an alternative role for her in the regime.

"Pyongyang's state-controlled news agency KCNA reported Monday a new roster for the Politburo, but Kim Yo Jong's name was missing from the list. South Korean news agency Yonhap described the exclusion as a demotion."

In April, UPI told us, "Kim Yo Jong to succeed brother in an emergency."

No one seems to know what goes on in the heart of Kim.

Not even The Shadow knows.

ITEM 11: CNBC reported, "The U.S. government on Monday said it would begin collecting new duties on aircraft parts and other products from France and Germany from Tuesday after failing to resolve a 16-year dispute over aircraft subsidies with the European Union.

"In a notice late on Monday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said the new duties would apply from 12:01 a.m. ET (0501 GMT) on Tuesday as part of the long-running battle over government subsidies to Europe’s Airbus and its U.S. rival, Boeing.

"The notice follows an announcement by the U.S. Trade Representative’s office that it would impose an additional 15% tariff on aircraft parts, including fuselage and wing assemblies, and a 25% duty on certain wines."

I can see the logic of a tariff on aircraft parts.

But slapping a tariff on wine makes no sense. I don't like taxes on booze in any form. Maybe that's why I married the granddaughter of a moonshiner.

ITEM 12: Axios reported, Red "China has constructed a vast string of factories inside the walls of Xinjiang mass internment camps, and Chinese authorities are forcing thousands of Muslim minorities to work in cotton fields, according to two recent investigations.

"Why it matters: Xinjiang products are deeply integrated into lucrative supply chains around the world. The Chinese Communist Party's official embrace of coerced labor will force Western governments and institutions to choose between pleasing business leaders or enforcing universal human rights values.

"Details: In the past three years, the Chinese government has forced hundreds of thousands of Uighurs and other Muslim minorities in Xinjiang to perform seasonal labor in the region's cotton fields, according to a December investigation from the BBC.

"People are sent to the fields as part of a labor transfer program, the BBC reports, drawing on Chinese government documents provided by Adrian Zenz, a leading expert on China's policies in Xinjiang.

"Beijing claims the programs alleviate poverty by providing well-paid employment for rural residents without a regular income. But researchers and rights groups say the labor transfer programs are part of the system of control, indoctrination and forced assimilation the Chinese government has deployed against Uighurs.

"Workers fear they will be sent to detention camps if they don't participate and are often underpaid."

But National Review assured me that we should not impose barriers on Red China because it was engaged in free trade.

The only thing free about it was the labor Red China used.

ITEM 13: CNN announced that Jim Acosta is finally getting to anchor a show.

I suggest he call it Dear Diary.

ITEM 14: Breitbart reported, "An internet service provider (ISP) in the North Idaho and the Spokane, Washington, area has decided to block Facebook and Twitter for its customers after some called in to complain about censorship on the platforms.

"The ISP, Your T1 WIFI, confirmed that it will block Facebook and Twitter from its WIFI service for some customers starting this Wednesday, according to a report by KREM 2."

Hahaha.

ITEM 15: The Center Square reported, "In a year marred by death from an ongoing pandemic, 2020 also saw record overdose deaths.

"The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that 2020 saw a record year-over-year number of opioid overdose deaths.

"More than 81,230 people died from a drug overdose between June 1, 2019, and May 31, 2020, the CDC provisional data shows. Revisions could drive that figure higher, the agency said."

That's an 18% increase in a single year.

We should have thought our response to the pandemic through.

FINALLY, Kurt Schlichter tweeted, "I think it’s hilarious that I’m not a bit afraid of what you have to say but you’re terrified of what I have to say."

Do not be afraid. All they have to offer is fear.
