<<< You note CKFR may be developing Genesis in COBOL and DB2 and say: I sure wouldn't choose these tools (if I had a choice)>>>

I don't have personal experience developing applications using COBOL and DB2 so my remark was a little careless. Also, I am only guessing that they are using DB2/COBOL for developing Genesis. My assumption is based on the Job listings advertised on the CKFR web site. They seem to be looking for a lot of people with these skills.

But I will make these generalizations from things I hear and read.
COBOL is no longer the language of choice for developing new applications. COBOL was extremely popular development language in the 60's, 70's, and 80's. This is why there is a big need for COBOL programmers to work on Year 2000 projects related to these legacy applications built years ago which still play an important role in todays business.

DB2 is IBM's DBMS (Database Management System). I no little of it, but hear it requires huge amount of data storage and is a pain to administer.

There is a major shortage of data processing professionals today because of the Year 2000 problems. I hope CheckFree is able to find the people they need. For the most part programmers prefer to work on development projects versus fixing date problems related to year 2000. CKFR has an advantage in that they can offer stimulating work to their employees (another assumption).
