You write He is obviously writing outside of his area of interest, a fact with which I would not disagree. No, he is writing his screeds in "his area of interest", what he isn't doing is writing in "his area of scholarship". You have his 9 page CV, if he has even one article published in a peer reviewed journal of religious history you should share that information with us. Did he write a book in the field? I think not. No degree, no journal articles, no books. Why not cite him as an authority on astrophysics next? I mean, you seem to think that his degree in criminology makes him an all-purpose scholar. Cite him all you want. It simply means that you can't find a scholar in the field to support your assertions. And no, it's not ad hominem to criticize the credentials of someone who is cited as an authority.
