If the EFF and other early Internet libertarians could have seen what the Internet has become they would've pulled the plug.


The early internet wasn't really accessible to the public. Mid-late 80's there were about 20 POP's where "people" could access the internet, mostly Govt labs and Universities. I worked for a >$500M tech company which had a leased T1 line to a University about 20 miles away. That gave a 5000 employee company 1Meg/sec access to the internet.
