 Jazz Multimedia Eyes Japanese Market

January 30, 1998 (TOKYO) -- Jazz Multimedia Inc. of the United States, a manufacturer of graphics boards for PCs and portable CD-ROM drives, said at a Tokyo press conference that it will incorporate its Tokyo office in July 1998 in an effort to make inroads into the Japanese market.

Jazz Multimedia already has business in Japan. In the beginning of February, it will release the Video Genius TV-tuner-installed 2D/3D graphics accelerator board and the Jammin DVD II DVD-ROM drive. The graphics board is priced at 29,800 yen (US$237). The price of the DVD-ROM is undecided.

The company also plans to sell portable CD-ROM drives and portable hard disk drives to tap the expanding notebook PC market.

The company set a sales goal of 4 billion yen (US$31.7 million) for 1998 in Japan.
