donsurber.blogspot.com Primary and purge

I see where 2 challengers have announced they will primary Liz the Impeacher Cheney, the No. 3 Republican leader in the House.

One down, 210 to go.

For 4 years, Trump supporters went along to get along. Where did it get us? Chairman Xiden plans to hunt us down, kick us off social media, and make our lives miserable.

For 4 years Republicans did nothing to help us. They failed to fund the wall. They failed to repeal Obamacare. They failed to strip Section 230 protection from Twitter and other online censors. They failed to listen to legitimate complaints about election fraud.

Lesson learned.

Bush 43, Dick Cheney, the McCains, and Romney spent the last 4 years in opposition to their party's president.

No loyalty for him, no loyalty from us.

Next year, all 211 Republican members of the House should face a Trumpian opponent in the primary. I don't care who they are or how loyal they have said they are to him. Everyone must be primaried. No one should get a free pass.

20 Republican senators are up for re-election. 2 already announced their retirements. Good because all 20 deserve to be primaried, even Rand Paul.

You primary them to put fear in them. Let no one slide. None. Not even Lauren Boebert. The one thing every adult American has is the power to vote, and that power must be exercised with authority. Nothing is more authoritative than an electorate that throws the bums out.

Incumbents will argue that this will weaken them in the general election.

So?

How is that our concern? This was supposed to be Donald Trump's second term. It isn't, and a big reason for that is the indifference of Republicans in Congress.

Paybacks are a female dog.

Now the chances of knocking them all off is too infinitesimal to bother calculating.

This brings me to step two. You look at the incumbents who survive the primary, and pass judgment on them

If Boebert survives, Trump supporters should campaign vigorously for her.

If Cheney survives, stay home because it does not matter which Democrat wins in Wyoming.

This will not divide the party. It is already divided between the 95% who voted for President Trump and the 5% who did not. Alas, Republicans in Washington are treating Biden better than they treated President Trump!

The way you change that is to change elected officials. If that means Democrats pick up a few more seats, so what? Cheney is a Democrat but Republicans made her the No. 3 leader in the House.

Party discipline is that important. Democrats punish disloyalty. Republicans reward it. That must change. Primarying them and purging the party of disloyal elected officials is the way to do this.

I mean, what good was controlling the House, the Senate, and the presidency for 2 years if we got nothing done legislatively besides a tax cut?
