I'm speaking primarily in heavy industrial applications such as steel and aluminum mills. Also, as I believe Steve has pointed out, the DEC VAX can be configured in clusters and therefore provide truly distributed high end control. These are high end, fault tolerant servers, which represent higher margin business opportunities. Furthermore, DEC provides the field service, training and consulting engineering services to support this business. In order to compete in this market place, Dell needs to align itself or merge with a similar company. These systems typically provide all applications from business needs to systems modeling to inventory and shipping. Lee
