My experience, I was punished when I lied and was punished when I told the truth. There is little if any reward for honesty.

Honesty is it's own reward. I won't try to explain it. Might be easier to think dishonesty carries it's own punishment. Bible says, something like, "go straight ahead, don't veer to the left or the right". Try it, you'll like it. Don't have to run scripts in your head, how to explain this way or that.

Or, maybe you want to be just like Donald.
