CARGILL: Cargill is an absolute giant. It is the largest privately held grain company in the US. I once heard (and don't know if it's true) that they had the port at New Orleans entirely tied up with their grain shipments for a span when some bottleneck was occurring. The reason they are not well known is that they are private. However, grain futures traders keep a close eye on Cargill's hedging. Anytime you eat a grain product, there's a good chance that the grain passed through Cargill's ownership at some point. They are major exporters. Cargill is to grain what a Parsons or Bechtel is to engineering/construction - enormous.
