Kurt, as a long time Geac shareholder I don't think Corel is a very good fit for them. The only tie with Geac was that Cowpland was on the board and then resigned. Cowpland does know the board very well so
I'm sure if Geac was interested in Corel, Cowpland would probably get a good deal for himself and the shareholders of Corel. This would probably be your best deal of any takeover attempt, but of course this is only rummours and speculation.
Geac's basic business practice is to take over floundering companies and turn them around. Their past track record proves their ability to do this but Corel is a totally diferent situation and product from which Geac is accustom to. The biggest problem with Corel is that MS monopoly. The only way that it can compete is to get bought out or partner with IBM or Sun or if the DOJ breaks up MS. I'm sure a IBM or Sun buyout will not give the shareholders of Corel a good buck for their shares.
Also Sun doesn't partner with companies, they buy them out.

JMHO
