It is a good theory but is well known. My children cost us several million in lost wages - provably. Everything is more expensive if you have children. You have the obvious direct costs of toys, babysitting, school supplies, clothes, food, safety equipment, sports equipment, medical, food, etc. You have extra insurance, cars and a larger house. It all adds up and is even more if you have a special needs kid as we did. Not only are they expensive - they limit your ability to move or travel or accept promotions. I was laid off because my job moved to the East Coast - my youngest was in her senior year. I couldn't see how that would work for us. It worked out okay and I got another gig.

That number is assuming 20 years $100k and doesn't include a time value of money calculation. You get some deductions. Whooooopeeeee!
