I even agree with this -- the excesses were there already -- however, the timing of the apparent downturn and the severity of its onset -- is in part a function of the pandemic "response" -- the criminally forced shutdowns.

No re: fiscal tools. These are what prolong recessions and we read a different history. Did not FDR embark on the largest make work program in history to-date at the time??

Increased taxes back when the economy was expanding -- choose your time period -- would have ONLY been paired with more and bigger government "help" -- i.e. displacement of market decisions by central planners who "know better" than the markets. (but not really)
