Your advice is sound.

I have a basket of 3-4 speculative stocks that take up to 35% of my portfolio, the balance pay dividends.

During the early months of Covid I dumped all my bank stocks in favour of one pipeline stock that pays a great dividend. I doubled on the share price but I’m not concerned with that I’m only interested in the dividend. When I make money on the spec-side or receive a dividend I reinvest in dividend paying stocks. For me unless it pays a dividend it is a speculation and not an investment.
