Yes, biology is vastly complex and probabilistic, with bad even being good in some circumstances such as sickle cell response to malaria which leaves those with bad luck suffering sickle cell anaemia so that their lucky siblings in greater numbers beat malaria.

But some things are very simple such as a vitamin C deficiency. There's no vast complexity there. Same with other shortages.

Maybe covid is doom due to telomere shrinkage, but almost certainly it's a much simpler problem. Yes infection vulnerability might be due to a genetic problem, but that's not the likely answer.

There are so many moving parts, occurring under constantly changing conditions and circumstances... that in effect, the whole thing becomes probabilistic.

For example, if confronted with scurvy, it might be due to a vast DNA probabilistic complexity. But maybe sucking a lemon is a good enough answer.

Maybe rickets is due to a DNA run of probabilistic bad luck, or maybe a bit of sunshine will avoid it.

Given the numbers of extreme outcomes in this novel infection, from death to barely noticed, there's probably a simple reason, or just a few simple reasons, especially as age is the dominant correlation but with great overlap = many 90 year olds don't die, but plenty of 40 year olds do.

So far, zinc, vitamin D, vitamin A, vitamin C seem likely to be good places to start. I don't mean treating sick people with those, I mean seeing the EXISTING levels in sick and dead and healthy people, by age.

It would be very very cheap to study. Blood test results vs outcomes. I could do it myself in 6 weeks, without working weekends.

Treating sick people with those is shutting the cockpit door AFTER the jihadists have bolted through.

Boomer Remover way back in early March newsweek.com

Nicknaming COVID-19 the "Boomer Remover" began at the very end of February, with only a handful of social media mentions through the first week of March. One early example, posted by comedian Toby Muresianu of the Up Close & Political podcast, jokingly urged the use of "boomer remover" as a replacement for "Wuhan virus"—the name for the COVID-19 virus preferred by prominent conservatives and racists working to keep the blame focused on China.
