Mark, in retrospect I am not quite sure if Cubist was actually mentioned in the MIT Tech Review article; Microcide was for sure. Microcide's Bostian was cited in a couple of places. Another medium-big pharma mentioned was Pharmacia-Upjohn.

Another approach, being pursued at the moment by a couple of private start-ups, is the use of bacteriophage viruses to kill specific bacteria. The problem, as with many viruses, is that they tend to have very specific hosts, and thus I has to know what kind of bacteria is causing the trouble before deciding if your particular brand of phage would work. Not exactly "broad spectrum." Not clear from the article if technology could obviate some of these issues.
