I've only watched the video and haven't downloaded the app yet. The video states it asks you what the bird looks like, where and when, what was it doing: then it provides photos from a list. There's no suggestion of computerized vision recognition. I'm downloading the app now. I'll report as to how useful it is to someone like me who can distinguish between a seagull and a sparrow only on good days.
