Hi UE, thanks for the update and I have one myself.

Last Wednesday I coughed up a lot of blood so I spent the day in Emergency. They did blood work that showed elevated levels of some sort of enzyme so they gave me a chest x-ray and a CT scan. Took a while for all the results to come back and for a doc to come explain things to me. Was in ER for 12 hours.

Long story short is that I have a fair sized pulmonary embolism or blood clot in or on my lung. All this time since I first called my doc about chest pains we've been chasing down the wrong path. CT scan showed my heart and arteries are as healthy as can be. The clot was pushing on things causing pain. I was immediately put on Xarelto, a heavy duty blood thinner and told to come back yesterday for follow up.

In the meantime, my doc called after last week's ER visit to say that without obvious reasons for the clot forming that it might be cancer. That made for an anxious, no appetite, poor sleep week. Yesterday at the thrombosis clinic follow up I expressed my concerns to the doctor there and he said flat out "you had a CT scan. There is NO lung cancer". Enormous relief needless to say. Thought for a while there I'd have to beg off on beers down the road.

My doctor will be calling me today to discuss and I have a mind to rip her to shreds for putting me through all this crap. In my opinion the CMA and GPs have really dropped the ball by doing almost all things by phone. Phone diagnoses for possible heart issues? I don't frigging think so. I'll be asking for additional testing to try to find out why the clot formed. Likely because I sit at the computer too much since covid keeps us home way too much. I'll still go for the PET scan on March 2nd.

I've stopped coughing blood and the pains are gone and I'm making an effort to move around more. I may have to stay on thinners forever but I will be on them for 6 months after which they will do another CT scan. My appetite is back with a vengeance and I can't stop eating, lol. Slept really good last night too.

Take care of yourself my friend and I will do the same and we'll have those beers one day.
