Why ?

Students are a target demographic whose support they need to sustain to have a prayer of retaining power.

They are, by definition, economic illiterates recently minted from the deep indoctrination by radical academics. Presenting them with a reality check in the form of dashed hopes... when they are paired with student loan payments that have to be sustained in order to provide the excessive financial rewards for those academics, in spite of their failure to provide anything of real value ?

When students learn BOTH that they'll never be able to pay off those loans... and what they learned in result of assuming the obligation is BS ?

That reality check has to be avoided "at all costs" (just like the conspiracy in hand waving past the fact of the election fraud)... at least in the part that radical academics excess pay depends upon... otherwise the entire house of cards collapses.

However... you should never value "potential" in any conflict like that... without understanding the ground... and the tilt of the slope.

I don't think there is any possible means by which the reckoning they seek to avoid... can be avoided.
