Seems about perfect for the moment... given an environment dominated by the duality of pirates and tyrants, with all others being relegated to choosing sides and playing bit parts without ever being heard...
Otherwise, making plans for my next project... or, more accurately, working on deciding which of them that I have already developed that next project will be. Given a significant backlog in work I've already done over the last 25 years, that's less about a need for engaging in new big problem solving exercises... and more of an issue in my selecting which of the problems I've already solved I want to focus on and bring to bear in the market... without wasting any more of my time.
Have "almost" ruled out advancing any of the more scientific or technical projects... as I cannot trust those controlling the market now with any access to the work I've already done... which goes far beyond that work to which I've already given others access. Work I did 20+ yeas ago is still a decade ahead of "cutting edge" tech announcements I see being made by others now... in semiconductors, battery technology development... photovoltaics... exotic materials... and in some new physics I've found that others aren't even aware of, yet...
Some of that work was stolen from me... so I might find it useful, soon, to deprive the thieves of some residual benefit of their prior thefts... by enlightening their competitors with a "next step" that obviates their state of the art with a "catch-up"... still without going too far beyond current limits.
Or, perhaps, simply write a book telling about "that aspect" of it... without exposing anything at all beyond what I showed them back in 1998... that they took from me... but I never got paid for ? Funny... that solving that "first" problem that I shared with them back then... was a solution I reverse engineered to match up with then current state of the art... from my having already solved the next level problems two steps beyond that one.
But, of course, the immediate theft of the least value is a pretty obvious deterrent to future cooperation ?
It is AMAZING how stupid some people can be... when they think they're being clever... and how blind to things they'd prefer to not see.
So, for now, I'll probably focus on using a couple of minor innovations, discoveries, or items of awareness rather than selling or exposing the others... while undertaking projects that don't obviously change anything much... when the change being enabled might have influence I'd oppose... or work to reward those who are undeserving.
I might start a mining exploration company this year... following up on a couple years worth of field work I've already done in part as my outdoor entertainment... not just out in the mountains walking for my health... but observing and learning, too ? And, from that... new concepts emerged... that I can prove, now, profitably.... while innovating in other aspects of making money from rocks. Gold and silver one part of that... but also a few more esoteric tech metals in my view...
Or, I might opt to exploit some bit of "meta" level awareness in countering the more pernicious impacts of some overly simple errors being imposed on us now... that are very simply obviated and thus entirely avoided quite easily with just a few simple changes... so, that might become a software project focused on alternative browser development, or an "alternative" security provision...
Some fun potentials there... as in a free-ish market "social credit scores" can be made a double edged sword... which seems not to have occurred to anyone on the left, here, in spite of "get woke, go broke" proving true enough... even without any software helping people to better optimize their choices.
I will be supporting others development of alternative "channels"... and see a lot of upside in projects providing people with services they want... like social media enabling free speech and unhindered communication without them being spied upon... while helping them to avoid supporting products, projects and people they find unworthy of support, or dangerous to the public interest.
Might even decide to start out again by launching my own fund... making trading and the collecting of mining shares or royalties, tech investments, etc. into a profit center underpinning more "direct" VC value creation ?
Won't do tech again... until I can do it on my own terms... without it imposing any dependence on others money... or any need for "sharing"... or any dependence on an expectation of others good faith.
Have a fun idea or two to exploit blockchain tech that others seem to be missing entirely... that I've been developing for a few years.
Will also seek to avoid projects that are "less portable"... which admittedly includes most aspects of anything tied to a particular patch of real estate... so, more direct interests become less appealing than the more fractional and portable sorts. Explorers... are less hindered... as the goal is finding value and turning it over to others to develop / hold the risks... Chamath has that part right in his SPAC for Real Estate ?
We don't have a free market... so should not choose to be stuck in our own sets of expectations that depend on there being a functional free market in order to have ones plans work. Without a free market, or when the liberation and trend in improvement or movement in that direction is terminated... the only choices you have left are to be dependent and work for the man...conforming to his dictat... or to be the man and carve your own path without accepting a forced dependence on others "help". Be the tyrant... be the slave... be the pirate... or choose to explore new frontiers and work to leave them all behind.
Can't understand America or Americans without understanding our choice... to embrace the frontier... and make others irrelevant by blazing new trails.
Apparently Musk scared the bejessus out of them with his Starship succeeding... and his talk of a colony on Mars that wouldn't be bound to being ruled from Earth... so, now, they've grounded him... denied him launch authorization... at least until he can move the entire operation somewhere outside their control.
Maybe... Mexico ?
Don't think I can count on a trip to Mars as an answer for me, anyway...
But, I'm in control of my choices... and, relishing the potentials... as I close in on making decisions. |
