Canada has plenty of very large refineries in Ontario and Quebec. oilsandsmagazine.com

Chevron previously owned the BC refinery simply because it was part of their greater west coast market.

Chevron also still supplies the Irving Refinery in St John Newfoundland with crude from Saudi Arabia.

If the Burnaby BC refinery ever closes, Chevron can supply BC with refined products by tanker from Richmond, CA or from their refinery in South Korea, as they always did during the annual Burnaby shut-downs.
