The price of silver is not so much how ample silver is, but rather what it costs in terms of time and energy to get it and how much that time and energy costs. If energy becomes free and everything is automated than silver may become next to worthless...image a cycle of solar energy where everything is automated and solar is used to create more solar (including mining silver).

But we are far from that yet. Meanwhile price of silver depends on price of oil and other factors and the more spread out in the crust the silver is and the more energy is needed to extract it and the higher the cost. That is a basic rule of all mining today. Even the most ample of minerals cost money/energy/time/etc. to extract and refine.
