He has no rational explanation for having done this. Has not even offered one AFAIK.

I don't know if he offered one or not. Wasn't paying attention. But I don't see why one would be necessary. The issue has been around for a long time and the positions laid out. It was his side's turn to turn the tables. It was a campaign promise. No explanation needed for that, other than to you, of course. I can't believe you didn't see that coming.

I think he might have framed it better, not put it out there naked in the package of first-day flips. That seemed a bit dismissive in tone to me. But the result would have been the same.
