A YouTuber tried to go viral by doing a "prank robbery" ... and got himself shot and killed instead

A 20-year-old was shot and killed in Nashville on Friday trying to become YouTube famous.

When police arrived on the scene, officers said they found 23-year-old David Starnes Jr., who admitted to shooting Wilks. Detectives said Wilks and a friend told them that they were participating in a "prank" robbery as part of a YouTube video.

Wilks and a friend approached a group of people with butcher knives. Starnes was in the group and was unaware of the prank. He shot Wilks in defense of himself and others, according to police.

You're seriously going to try to prank people by running up on them with butcher knives and "fake" robbing them?

How in the actual heck could anyone ever think this was a good idea??

What an insane story. People will do ANYTHING to try and go viral.

Super awful that this kid got killed. At the same time, running up on strangers with a butcher knife and yelling at them to give you their money ... that's a really good way to get yourself killed.
