I haven't read the book but I am thinking of ordering it - a book about Prudential and the lawsuits against them a few years ago. The book is: "The Serpent on the Rock". It is supposed to be a very enlightening book on the corruption that goes on at these brokerage houses.

I have two internet/brokerage accounts (Etrade and Datek) and will NEVER trade through a broker again. Yea, I know how you feel about having a nice guy for a representative. One of my regular broker houses just charged me $600 for selling less than 1000 shares of TXN a few days ago. I was supposed to be charged around $120. I am of course complaining about this outrageous charge and will take it to the SEC if I have to. I could go on about how awful HD VEST is but I won't. The point is I have had bad experiences with brokers, even the so-called discount brokers, and I am transferring my funds out and into my electronic/internet accounts. WHY would anyone that can use a computer trade through a traditional brokerage house. They have proven themselves repeatedly to be corrupt and ... well why should I pay $60 to $250 or even an UNBELIEVABLE $600 for a trade that I can execute within seconds on my computer for $10-$20. A few years ago we did not have a choice but now we do. SO RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN AWAY FROM BROKERS WHO WILL EXECUTE YOUR TRADES AND INVEST YOUR MONEY UNTIL YOU HAVE NONE. Hey, I haven't lost any money from them but HD VEST has always tried to screw me on commissions. AND yes my representative is the only reason I have had an account there. But no longer. Yes, there are problems with internet trading but I will endure them to save $ on commissions and to avoid the traditional brokerage firm. Smith-Barney, Prudential, etc. are all the same. SLEAZY.
