I listened in to a bit of what Cramer had to say on Mad Money yesterday afternoon. He wants the US to issue savings bonds to finance new chip foundries here in the United States that the chip companies will pay off in the future with their profits.

We could thereby reduce our dependence on foreign countries and the risk of what could happen if we ever get into a military conflict with China.

The current chip shortage could easily lead to over building of foundries and much lower pricing on commodity chips in the future.

I want to see more Americans working in more than a development fashion in the semiconductor and semiconductor equipment industries but...

I am skeptical that this will actually happen because greed is such a powerful driver.

If making chips is cheaper (more profitable) in other countries then that will continue to be where it is done primarily.
