SDG....Sofamor Danek..RESEARCH ALERT - Sofamor Danek <SDG.N> started CLEVELAND, Feb 2 (Reuters) - Midwest Research said Monday it initiated coverage of orthopedic device company Sofamor Danek Group Inc with a buy rating and set a 12-month target price of $78 a share. --Analyst David O'Neal pegged 1997 earnings at $2.10 a share, against last year's $1.68. He estimated 1998 earnings per share at $2.60 and fourth quarter 1997 at $0.59 a share, compared with last year's $0.46. --"We expect gross margins to remain in the 82 percent range," O'Neal said in a statement. "Based on peer group valuation, we assign a 150 percent relative multiple to 1998 estimated earnings of $2.60 to get our (12-month) price target of $78."
