January 26th issue of EETimes has an article talking about a 1 year slip in Korean purchase of 300mm equipment. The drop in investments for the whole Korean industry was from 7billion in 1996 to 2billion projected for next year. In a normal year Korea accounts for 10% of fab equipment purchases. What I'm curious about is whether US and European businesses will take this opportunity to beat Asia to the 300mm fab lines in order to stay competative. And whether this will maintain decent industry growth for equip manufacturers like SFAM. TEC
