<Man IS a product of nature and has been formed by nature. The mind is/was NATURE'S plan!>
I don't think it is quite that simple, Terrence. The American Indians would never have figured out how to clone human beings, or invent nuclear weapons, and their worship of the natural universe as sacred would have ensured that they would have taken excellent care of it.
Unfortunately, nature cultures are not dominant, and I suspect that conquering cultures may not be the best for our future, at all. It would only take a few genetic experiments gone wrong--and here I believe we are tinkering without complete knowledge of the wisdom of mother nature--to wipe out the earth's food supply.
Similarly, human cloning may or may not be a good idea. Where you see spaceships carrying us off to colonize other planets (gee, haven't we, um, done enough damage here?), I see a Pandora's box. And one of the theories I find fascinating is that the further we get away from our feet touching natural earth, and the more crowded we get, the more savage we become as a people. You would not have to look beyond an inner city out of control to see the increase in brutal, senseless violence.
So I guess I remain a Luddite. Did you know that the Theodore Kazinsky has a cult following, and that he plans to spend the rest of his life in prison WRITING?? |
