Masks, as currently implemented, do not work.

Hawaii implemented a masking order, and ... , the cases went up by a factor of 10.

A filter only traps particles if the airflow is always in the same direction. A proper N95 mask has a valve, breathing out opens the valve and airflow always goes in the same direction. When airflow goes in both directions the mask serves to spread the particles. The droplet captured on the outside dries out and is then broadcast on a later exhale.

Spreading of respiratory diseases tracks absolute humidity, falling in the summer when there is moisture in the air. Larger droplets fall to the ground, smaller droplets are inhaled deep into the lungs.

Masks simply do not work. Actually studies in operating theaters found that not wearing masks lowered the infection rate. This was under optimal conditions, the surgeons were trained and changed masks regularly. They just don't work.
Guidelines recommend the use of surgical face masks by staff in the operating room to protect both operating room staff and patients (despite the lack of evidence).
It has never been shown that wearing surgical face masks decreases postoperative wound infections. On the contrary, a 50% decrease has been reported after omitting face masks

Do masks work?

Does this seem odd to you? They studied whether infection rate went up or down by removing masks, got the unexpected result that it went down and continue to recommend masks. Perhaps they should study hand washing next.
