Washington Update: UPCOMING HEARINGS:

* The House Committees on Government Reform and Oversight (Subcommittee on
Government Management, Information and Technology - Horn) and Science (Subcommittee on Technology - Morella) will have a joint hearing on February 4, 1998 at 2 p.m. , Room 311 Cannon. The primary focus will be the FAA. The FAA, GAO and the Department of Transportation Inspector General will testify.

* The House Committee on Banking and Financial Services (Leach) will have a full committee hearing on February 5, 1998 at 10 a.m., Room 2128 Rayburn. The hearing will consider legislation (H.R. 3117, house.gov introduced by Chairman Leach on Y2K.

* The Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation (McCain) will
hold a hearing on the Year 2000 issue on April 28, 1998 at 9:30 a.m., Room 253, Russell SOB.
The hearing is expected to focus on the FAA.

* The Senate Committee on Governmental Affairs (Thompson) is considering a Year 2000 hearing in the next few months. Thompson is considering various topics including healthcare, the FAA, and PCs.

* The House Committee on Science, Subcommittee on Technology (Morella) is also
considering having a hearing in early February on the IT Workforce Shortage issue in relation to the Year 2000 challenge. This may be a joint hearing with the Education and Workforce Committee.
