Over 2 years and still no final report on the investigation into Field derailment that killed 3 CPR employees.

Shameful.

I question the practice of management telling employees to apply brake retainers on a train

in emergency,,on a 2 % grade,, in lieu of handbrakes. Is retainer application, in lieu of hand brakes in the

railway rules or special instructions?? 84 ,, if that is the final number,, didn’t work,,, 84 hand brakes would

have! No Doubt!

Train crews are trained,, and know that sufficient

hand brakes must be applied ( numbers plus,, in special instructions) Management is biased,, because

they know the excess time and effort it takes to apply, and release hand brakes and employees are

easily coerced,, because extreme physical work involved. Modern day “” railway culture”” ???needs a look.

All black boxes on locomotives need a do over, as can’t survive a crash of 60 mph?? Locomotive largely

intact on it’s side in the river? Compare to plane crashes??

Did the relieving crew have any dynamic braking on the train?? We’re they working before?

Will it take another year to complete the investigation?? If so,, pathetic.
